Business Insider had a great article back in December of 2019 in regards to the top Business books. Here are a few for you guys to stock pile! I took the top 5 & broke them down for you & provided you quotes from people that have read these books in the past via Amazon. I have yet to read any of these but I am ready to dive right in after reading about each!
Business Adventures By: John Brooks
“This book makes me feel as though I’m sitting at the knee of my grandfather, listening to wise recollections.
A writer of articles in the 1950’s and 1960, many for the New Yorker, the author intelligently and thoughtfully steps through 12 events, one per chapter.”
“Often mentioned by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. this truly is one super book that sucks you into the moments of madness as if you were there.”
The Intelligent Investor By: Benjamin Graham
“This is a great book for anyone who is interested in introducing themselves into the world of investing, or wants to hone their skills and better themselves. Although, while a great book I would not recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have the discipline to treat this book as a college textbook. Annotate, take notes, and create a guide. If you want to start taking investing seriously and want to begin practicing the discipline of self education, this is the book for you.”
“This book is perhaps the most important and insightful book on investing, and an eternal classic. It is not a book that promises ‘How to become rich…’ or ‘Mastering Stock market in a week….’ or ‘Beating the market made easy…’ or any shortcut to a quick buck. “
The Innovator’s Dilemma By: Clayton M. Christenson
“The book is squarely aimed at managers in large organisations, rather than small business, so it is not a straightforward process of reading it for great business advice, but I found it stimulating and informative – well researched and supported by data evidence and case studies. I am sure that it is useful for anyone studying business management, but it may just help the little guy find a way to take on the bigger organizations and win.”
“Really enjoyed this book. A very interesting insite into the world disruptive technologies and how fast paced the technology market is. Some wonderful examples of different industries and an indepth analysis of spesific times when a new technology has started as a low margin, low performance alternative and gradually surpassed market leaders changing industry standards.”
The Outsiders: Eight Unconventional CEO’s and their Radically Rational Blueprint for Success By: William N. Thorndike
“Buffett uses float from his insurance companies and cash flow from the consumer companies so he doesn’t need to use external fundraise and debt to invest. The chapter on Warren Buffet is worth the price of the book. As a venture capitalist and owner of many companies, I learn so many insightful strategies such as capital allocation, rolling up companies to maximize scale, margin and cash flow strategy to acquire companies. I get so many ideas to scale my investments.”
“This is an out of the box book, in the era of Teslas and Netflix’es, companies that burn a lot of cash but a worth more than companies with a sound track record of profitability and billions of profits and cash flow. This book is just about that ceo’s of companies that passed out of the Limelight but produced astonishing returns.”
Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World — and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling, Anna Rosling Rönnlund, and Ola Rosling
“This is the book Hans Rosling decided to write when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and after cancelling all further speaking engagements. It’s his testament to how the world has measurably improved on so many levels people are strangely unaware of, and what’s left to be done. It’s a tribute to calm rationality and full of extremely interesting and very personal stories to boot. What an interesting and rich life. What a marvellous book summing it all up. Truly one of the best reads for me in a long time.”
“His ideas, his realism, his search for solutions to major problems and determination to show the world how we are progressing, without minimising or marginalising any problems that that do exist will surely live on for a long, long time beyond his death. I highly recommend this book and any of the associated talks on these matters.”
